The Calgary Stampeders enter their final preseason game on Friday in search of someone to step up in the receiving corps.

After 2022 all-star Malik Henry went down with a season-ending knee injury in practice earlier this week, the team will be auditioning new faces for an unexpected opportunity. With NFL veteran Auden Tate also out with injury, Cameron Echols will get the first look with the top unit.

The former USFL standout led the team with five receptions for 69 yards last week. Fellow rookie Erik Brooks, who had three catches for 54 yards, and veteran Tre Odoms-Dukes, who caught 60 passes for 686 yards and two majors last year, are the only other American receivers on the roster.

The rest of the first-team offence will remain as projected, save for veteran centre Sean McEwen who will rest this week in favour of Rodeem Brown. Defensively, star linebackers Cameron Judge and Micah Awe, safety Branden Dozier, and defensive linemen Julian Howsare, Mike Rose, and James Vaughters Jr. will all take the game off.

The Stampeders are set to wrap up their preseason at 8:30 p.m. ET on May 31 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Final cuts will need to be made by 10:00 p.m. local time the following day.
