The B.C. Lions have booked rap icon 50 Cent to perform at the club’s home opener on Saturday, June 15 against the Calgary Stampeders.

“It’s an honour to give our great fans the opportunity to see a world class performer who resonates across multiple generations of music lovers,” said team owner Amar Doman in a statement. “Concert Kickoff has become a great tradition in Vancouver and 50 Cent is our best one yet.”

The two-time Billboard Top Artist Award-winner has released five studio albums with the first, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, being the most commercially successful, selling over 12 million units worldwide. “In da Club” and “21 Questions,” two singles from the album, both reached No. 1 on the U.S. charts, while “P.I.M.P.” reached No. 3.

The 48-year-old native of Queen’s, N.Y. sold out Rogers Arena in Vancouver last year as part of his Final Lap tour. He also appeared in the Super Bowl LVI halftime show from Los Angeles, Calif. alongside Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar, which won him an Emmy.

The Lions have opened the upper bowl at BC Place Stadium to accommodate the extra fans the halftime performance will attract.

“This announcement has had our ticketing team buzzing,” said team president Duane Vienneau. “We very much look forward to another huge crowd to celebrate the return of Lions football and our concert featuring 50 Cent.”

This marks the third straight year B.C. has had a high-profile musical act perform at their home opener as OneRepublic performed in 2022 and LL Cool J performed in 2023.
