The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have released seven American players, including receivers Marcus Cooper and Allie Green IV, defensive linemen Marje Smith and Vonnie Watkins, linebacker Jimmy Phillips Jr., and defensive backs Maxwell Worship and Avery Young.
Young went unselected in the 2023 NFL Draft before stints with the San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The six-foot, 220-pound native of Coatesville, Pa. made 326 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, three quarterback sacks, three interceptions, 26 passes defensed, five forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery over 57 career collegiate games at Rutgers University. He was named All-Big Ten honourable mention in 2022.
Hamilton has also moved American receivers Johnny King and Justin McGriff to the suspended list along with American defensive lineman Jason Lewan.
CFL teams were required to shorten their rosters to 75 players plus non-counters as of Wednesday morning.
The Tiger-Cats will play their first preseason game on Saturday, May 25 when they host the Ottawa Redblacks at Tim Hortons Field.
