The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed Canadian running back Michael Chris-Ike, who was selected in the second round of the 2024 CFL Draft.
The Hamilton, Ont. native recently attended rookie minicamp with the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints, though he wasn’t offered a contract with either team.
The six-foot-one, 225-pound ball carrier was one of the top testers at the CFL Combine in March, running a 4.51-second forty-yard dash, 6.71-second three-cone drill, and 4.19-second shuttle — all of which were the fastest marks in attendance. He also recorded a 35.5-inch vertical jump, 122-inch broad jump, and 16 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.
Despite his impressive measurables, Chris-Ike was never a full-time starter at Delaware State University. In 28 career games, he carried 162 times for 754 yards and five touchdowns, while making 10 total special teams tackles. He expected to fill a fullback-type role in Winnipeg.
The Blue Bombers will open the 2024 regular season by hosting the Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes at Princess Auto Stadium on Thursday, June 6.
