The Ottawa Redblacks have signed Canadian receiver Nick Mardner, who was the second overall pick in the 2024 CFL Draft.
The six-foot-six, 208-pound target completed his NCAA career at Auburn University but dressed only four games due to injury and didn’t record any statistics. He previously played at the University of Hawai’i and the University of Cincinnati.
The native of Oakville, Ont. had his best collegiate season in 2021 as a member of the Rainbow Warriors when he made 46 catches for 913 yards and five touchdowns to be named All-Mountain West honourable mention.
At his pro day in March, Mardner ran a 4.60-second forty-yard dash, 4.62-second short shuttle, and 7.43-second three-cone drill. He also recorded 11 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press, a 35-inch vertical, and a 129-inch broad jump.
Mardner recently participated in rookie minicamp with the New York Giants but was not offered a contract by the team.
The Redblacks have a bye during the first week of the 2024 regular season before hosting the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Thursday, June 13 at TD Place Stadium.
