Blue Bombers release 2023 first-round CFL Draft pick, Canadian DL Anthony Bennett

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released Canadian defensive lineman Anthony Bennett.

He dressed for 18 games during his rookie CFL season while making eight defensive tackles and three special teams tackles.

The 27-year-old Bennett was selected in the first round, eighth overall during the 2023 CFL Draft. The University of Regina product was named a first-team All-Canadian and a Canada West all-star after recording 38 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, and nine sacks as a senior — a school record.

The six-foot-one, 235-pound defensive end joined the Rams in 2021, recording 25 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and two sacks. The 26-year-old played at Florida Atlantic University from 2015 to 2019.

The Bombers also cut American offensive lineman Kendall Randolph, American receiver Bryce Mitchell, American receiver Keytaon Thompson, American defensive lineman Ali Fayad, American defensive lineman Jordan Lewis, American defensive lineman David Green and American kicker Jose Borregales.
