Hamilton Tiger-Cats sign seven, including six-foot-six receiver T. J. Vasher

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed seven players ahead of rookie camp, including American receiver T. J. Vasher, Canadian receiver Kaine Stevenson, American tight end Camren McDonald, American defensive linemen Vonnie Watkins and Marje Smith, American defensive back Mark Milton, and Canadian defensive back Frederik Lesieur.

Vasher was recently with the San Antonio Brahmas of the UFL, recording 16 catches for 173 yards and two touchdowns. The six-foot-six, 215-pound native of Wichita Falls, Texas signed with the Dallas Cowboys after going unselected in the 2021 NFL Draft and spent his rookie season on the team’s reserve/non-football injured list. He was cut the following year in training camp.

The 25-year-old made 146 receptions for 1,983 yards and 21 touchdowns over 42 collegiate games at Texas Tech University, which ranks ninth in school history. He is the nephew of former NFL cornerback Nathan Vasher, who was named to the Pro Bowl as a member of the Chicago Bears in 2005.

Stevenson went unselected in the 2024 CFL Draft out of the University of Guelph. He made 48 receptions for 547 yards and three touchdowns over 23 collegiate games with the Gryphons after originally being recruited as a running back. He also carried the ball 101 times for 445 yards and three touchdowns.

McDonald has been a member of the Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams, though he’s yet to dress for a regular season NFL game. The six-foot-four, 245-pound native of Long Beach, Calif. made 74 receptions for 861 yards and five touchdowns over 58 collegiate games at Florida State University. The 24-year-old was the co-recipient of the Bob Crenshaw Award in 2022, which is presented to the Florida State “player with the biggest heart.”

Watkins made 33 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, five sacks, and two forced fumbles over 13 games at Ohio University this past season before going unselected in the 2024 NFL Draft. The six-foot-four, 240-pound native of Lusby, Md. made 83 total tackles, 23 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, three pass knockdowns, and four forced fumbles over 33 collegiate games with the Bobcats.

Smith made 12 total tackles, three tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception, and one pass knockdown this past season at Stephen F. Austin State University. The six-foot-four, 220-pound native of Marshall, Texas originally started his collegiate career at Baylor University.

Milton has been a member of the Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers as well as the UFL’s San Antonio Brahmas and Birmingham Stallions but has yet to dress for a regular season game in any professional league. The six-foot-one, 185-pound native of Houston, Texas made 97 total tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception, nine pass knockdowns, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery over 51 collegiate games at Baylor University, earning an All-Big 12 honourable mention in 2022.

Lesieur most recently played with the Karlskoga Wolves in Sweden. The six-foot-two, 215-pound native of Montreal, Que. played collegiately at Penn State University, Concordia University, CEGEP Andre-Grassett, CEGEP de Lennoxville, and Grizzlis de Boucherville.
