The Ottawa Redblacks have signed four players, including Canadian running back Jared Chisari, American running back TJ Hammonds, American receiver Ryan McDaniel, and Global linebacker Heston Lamenta.

Chisari ran for 2,023 yards and 12 touchdowns over the past two seasons at Queen’s University, setting a new single-season rushing record for the program in 2023 when he was named a first-team U Sports All-Canadian. He previously played at the University of Massachusetts before transferring to the U Sports level.

Hammonds played for the XFL’s Seattle Dragons this past season and carried the ball 32 times for 167 yards and one touchdown over eight games. The five-foot-ten, 195-pound ball-carrier played collegiately at the University of Arkansas where he rushed for 543 yards and two touchdowns and caught 13 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns.

McDaniel signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars after going unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft and has since been a member of the USFL’s Memphis Showboats. The six-foot-two, 204-pound target played 33 collegiate games at North Carolina Central University where he caught 106 passes for 1,206 yards and eight touchdowns.

Lamenta was Ottawa’s second-round pick in the 2024 CFL Global Draft. The native of Pago Pago, American Samoa played 31 games at Northern Arizona University where he made 56 total tackles, one tackle for loss, and one forced fumble.

The Redblacks have also released American receiver Maurice Ffrench and American defensive lineman Vandarius Cowan.

Ffrench started four games for the Edmonton Elks in 2023, recording 15 catches for 190 yards and one touchdown. He joined Ottawa’s practice roster partway through the season but didn’t dress for any regular season games with the team.
