The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have signed a pair of American defenders to their training camp roster in DQ Thomas and linebacker defensive back Allie Green IV.

Thomas was a five-year standout at Middle Tennessee State University, amassing 309 total tackles, 53 tackles for loss, 20.5 quarterback sacks, two interceptions, nine passes defended, eight forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries in 60 games. A second-team All-Conference USA selection in 2021, he left school as the Blue Raiders’ all-time leader in tackles for loss and third in school history for quarterback sacks.

The 25-year-old from Oxford, Miss. signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and later spent time on the practice roster of the Green Bay Packers. He was not retained by the team after suffering a broken femur in practice in January of 2023.

Green wrapped up his collegiate career in 2021 at the University of Missouri, registering 30 total tackles and four pass breakups in 12 games. The six-foot-two, 200-pound corner transferred after three seasons at the University of Tulsa, where he totalled 88 tackles, four tackles for loss, 10 pass breakups, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in 34 appearances.

Since going unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft, the 26-year-old native of Austin, Tex. has spent time with the Chicago Bears and the XFL’s St. Louis Battlehawks, but did not see game action with either club.

The Ticats will open their 2024 regular season by visiting the Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium on Friday, June 7.
