Veteran CFL kicker Sean Whyte put his football skills to good use at a recent gender reveal party celebrating the upcoming birth of his first child.

The 38-year-old kicker punted a mini-football that erupted into pink smoke on impact, signaling that he and his wife, Ranna, are expecting a baby girl. He subsequently tweeted that his daughter will be named Mya Rose Whyte and is expected to arrive on Sept. 21, which is perfect timing as the date falls during one of B.C.’s bye weeks.

The native of White Rock, B.C. has been in the CFL since 2007, playing for the Lions, Montreal Alouettes, and Edmonton Football Team. He was named the Most Outstanding Canadian in the East Division in 2011 and won a Grey Cup with Edmonton in 2015.

Whyte is the third-oldest active player in the CFL but isn’t showing any signs of slowing down as he was named a league all-star for the first time in 2023. He connected on 94.3 percent of his field goal attempts and 97.8 percent of his convert attempts this past season with a long of 51 yards.

The Lions will open their 2024 regular season on Sunday, June 9 when they visit the Toronto Argonauts at BMO Field.
