The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed American receiver Myron Mitchell to their training camp roster.

A transfer from Butler Community College, Mitchell played 23 games over three seasons at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, catching 63 passes for 990 yards and seven touchdowns. The six-foot-one, 180-pound speedster added 23 kickoff returns for 497 yards and another major, earning honourable mention All-Conference USA honours in 2019 and 2020.

The native of Jasper, Ala. went unselected in the 2021 NFL Draft but signed with the Minnesota Vikings. He appeared in one game for the team while spending the majority of his rookie season on the practice squad, seeing action for a single offensive snap.

Mitchell last suited up for the USFL’s Birmingham Stallions in 2023 after being acquired in a preseason trade from the Michigan Panthers. In 10 games, he caught 15 passes for 138 yards and one touchdown while helping Birmingham capture its second consecutive USFL title. After being retained by the team in the UFL dispersal draft, he was waived last month.

The Bombers have also transferred American defensive lineman Nate Givhan to the retired list.

Winnipeg will open the 2024 regular season by hosting the Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes at Princess Auto Stadium on Thursday, June 6.
