The Calgary Stampeders have brought back Global linebacker Lino Schröter following his recovery from a knee injury suffered in training camp last year.
The native of Troisdorf, Germany was selected with the 15th overall pick in the second round of the 2023 Global Draft. He saw action in one pre-season game, recording one defensive tackle, before suffering the injury that ended his season.
Schröter spent the two previous seasons with the Cologne Crocodiles of the German Football League, earning the club’s Special Teams Player of the Year and Most Improved Defensive Player awards in 2021. The six-foot-one, 228-pound defender made the GFL all-star team in 2022 after recording 59 tackles including 11 tackles for loss, five sacks, six pass breakups and one forced fumble in 11 games.
The Stampeders will open the 2024 regular season on Friday, June 7 when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at McMahon Stadium.
