TSN is slated to broadcast just two CFL preseason games in 2024, carrying over a reduction that was imposed last season.

According to a broadcast schedule released on Thursday, the league’s national television rights holder won’t carry any games until Week 3 of the preseason. They open their slate with a preseason doubleheader on Friday, May 31, beginning with the Montreal Alouettes visiting the Ottawa Redblacks at 7:00 p.m. ET and ending with the Edmonton Elks at B.C. Lions at 10:00 p.m.

TSN televised four preseason games per year just prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and did so again in 2022, before reducing that number by half in 2023. There were no preseason games in 2021 due to the CFL’s shortened 14-game regular season, nor were there any in 2020 amid the league’s cancelled season.

It is not feasible for TSN to feature the league’s entire preseason schedule, as many games occur concurrently. This year, the league has elected to schedule four games each on Saturday, May 25 and Friday, May 31, providing additional logistical challenges.

Last season, the CFL made every preseason game available to be streamed for free on mobile or digital devices via their platform, CFL Preseason Live. Those streams relied on in-stadium video feeds and local broadcasting crews providing play-by-play and analysis. The league has yet to confirm the return of that initiative this season.

All 81 of this year’s regular season CFL games will be televised by TSN along with four postseason games ahead of the Grey Cup on Sunday, Nov. 17.

The CFL preseason will begin off-air on Monday, May 20, when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders at 4:00 p.m. ET.
