Rejoice, U Sports fans: Ontario University Athletics (OUA) has unveiled its schedule for the 2024 regular season.
The first week will see the Carleton Ravens visit the Guelph Gryphons, the Queen’s Golden Gaels visit the Windsor Lancers, and the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks visit the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, Aug. 24. On the following day, the Western Mustangs will visit the Ottawa Gee-Gees and the Toronto Varsity Blues will visit the Waterloo Warriors. The York Lions will open the season on a bye week.
A rematch of last year’s Yates Cup will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14 when the Western Mustangs visit the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. The Queen’s Golden Gaels will get a chance to avenge their Yates Cup semifinal loss from last season when they visit the Mustangs on Saturday, Sept. 28, while the Lancers will get the same opportunity when they host the Golden Hawks on Friday, Oct. 11.
The annual Panda Game will take place on Sunday, Oct. 6 when the Carleton Ravens and Ottawa Gee-Gees play at TD Place Stadium. Last year’s rivalry game ended in a walk-off 55-yard field goal from Campbell Fair, which secured an 18-16 win for the Gee-Gees.
The top seven teams from the regular season OUA standings advance to the playoffs with the No. 1 seed getting a first-round bye. Western has won five of the past six Yates Cups, including the past three.
Wilfrid Laurier quarterback Taylor Elgersma won the Larry Haylor Award this past season as the OUA’s Most Valuable Player after completing 75.2 percent of his passes for 2,641 yards, 18 touchdowns, and four interceptions. The six-foot-six, 220-pound passer from London, Ont. is eligible for the 2025 CFL Draft.
