The Edmonton Elks have brought back American defensive lineman Emeke Egbule following his release from the St. Louis Battlehawks of the UFL.

The six-foot-two, 245-pound defender signed with the Elks late this past season and played three regular season games, recording one defensive tackle. He was released to pursue an opportunity south of the border.

The 27-year-old spent three seasons in the NFL with the Los Angeles Chargers from 2019 to 2021 after being selected in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. In 32 games with the Chargers, he recorded 13 total tackles.

Egbule played for seasons at the University of Houston where he made 164 tackles, five sacks, two interceptions, and two forced fumbles. The native of Topeka, Kan. spent the 2022 NFL season on the practice roster of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Elks will open their 2024 regular season by hosting the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday, June 8.
