Queen’s University offensive lineman Ryan Berta won the bench press at the 2024 CFL Combine, recording 30 reps of 225 pounds.
The native of Hamilton, Ont. made 24 career starts with the Golden Gaels and was a U Sports second-team All-Canadian and OUA first-team all-star this past season. He was also named a second-team OUA all-star in 2022.
Windsor offensive lineman Owen Mueller finished second with 29 reps, followed by Calgary offensive lineman John Bosse, Laval offensive lineman Nathaniel Dumoulin-Duguay, and Wilfrid Laurier defensive lineman Brandon Omonuwa at 25.
The all-time bench press record for the CFL Combine was set by Wilfrid Laurier offensive lineman Michael Knill in 2011 at 47 reps, followed by Montreal linebacker Byron Archambault in 2015 (41), Laval offensive lineman Philippe Gagnon in 2016 (40), and Wilfrid Laurier running back Mike Montoya in 2010 (40).
The top performer at the 2023 CFL Combine in Edmonton among Canadian players was Western offensive lineman Phillip Grohovac with 26 reps, who was selected in the third round by the Edmonton Elks.
