The Toronto Argonauts have signed American receiver Trea Shropshire and American linebacker Khalan Tolson.
Shropshire went unselected in the 2023 NFL Draft and attended rookie minicamp with the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings, though he didn’t sign a contract with either team. He was most recently a member of the D.C. Defenders of the UFL.
The six-foot-three, 195-pound target caught 78 passes for 1,936 yards and 15 touchdowns over 34 collegiate games at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. He also previously had a stint at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) level with Blinn College in Brenham, Texas.
Tolson had a brief stint with the Carolina Panthers after going unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft and made 76 total tackles and one sack as a member of the USFL’s Houston Gamblers this past season.
The 24-year-old made 128 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble over 28 games at the University of Illinois.
Toronto has also lost Canadian receiver Richard Burton to retirement. The five-foot-eleven, 185-pound target was a sixth-round pick in the 2023 CFL Draft out of Queen’s University. The Ottawa native made 131 catches for 2,016 yards and nine touchdowns during his collegiate career with the Golden Gaels.
Toronto will open their 2024 regular season on Sunday, June 9 when they host the B.C. Lions at BMO Field.
