The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed American linebacker Diego Fagot (pronounced: ‘Fuh-go’).
The six-foot-three, 240-pound defender went unselected in the 2022 NFL Draft before stints with the Baltimore Ravens, Houston Roughnecks (XFL), and New England Patriots. He never saw any regular season action in either league.
The 26-year-old was named first-team All-AAC in 2019 and second-team All-AAC in 2020 while playing for the United States Naval Academy. He made 282 defensive tackles, 36 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, two interceptions, five pass knockdowns, six forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries over four collegiate seasons.
The native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. reportedly ran a 4.68-second forty-yard dash ahead of his draft year along with a 36-inch vertical jump, 107-inch broad jump, 7.27-second three-cone drill, and 4.47-second short shuttle.
The Riders will open their 2024 regular season on Saturday, June 8 when they visit the Edmonton Elks at Commonwealth Stadium.
