The Edmonton Elks have signed American running back Camerun Peoples to their training camp roster.
The six-foot-two, 225-pound ball carrier played five seasons for Appalachian State University, earning second-team All-Sun Belt honours in 2020 and 2021. He rushed 455 times for 2,830 yards and 33 touchdowns in 36 career games, finishing second all-time in career rushing touchdowns for the Mountaineers and fourth all-time in both carries and yardage.
Peoples also holds the NCAA bowl game record for rushing yards, having racked up 319 yards and five touchdowns in the 2020 Myrtle Beach Bowl against North Texas.
The native of Lineville, Al. was invited to the prestigious Senior Bowl all-star game but went unselected in the 2023 NFL Draft. He signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent and was waived following training camp.
The Elks will open their 2024 regular season by hosting the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday, June 8.
