The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have officially signed American defensive back Jamal Peters.
The 27-year-old recorded 32 defensive tackles, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles over 13 games with the Toronto Argonauts in 2023 following a stint with the Atlanta Falcons.
The six-foot-two, 220-pound cover man started 15 games for the Argos at boundary cornerback in 2022 and made 57 tackles, six interceptions, one sack, and one touchdown en route to being named a CFL all-star. He started the East Final and Grey Cup and recorded eight tackles and one forced fumble to help the Argos win a CFL championship.
The native of Bassfield, Mis. signed with Toronto in February 2021 and spent time on the practice roster before making his professional debut in Week 2. He dressed for eight games that season, recording 32 tackles and one interception.
Peters went unselected in the 2019 NFL Draft following a four-year collegiate career at Mississippi State University. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent but was released shortly after with an injury settlement.
The Ticats will open their 2024 regular season by visiting the Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium on Friday, June 7.
