The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have signed American offensive lineman Chris Ivy to their training camp roster.
The six-foot-two, 286-pound blocker originally signed with the Bombers in May of 2023 and made the team’s practice roster. However, he was released in August.
Winnipeg is facing a crisis at the offensive tackle position following the surprise retirement of backup Drew Richmond and the expected departure of all-star Jermarcus Hardrick in free agency to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Ivey is expected to be part of the open competition for that position.
The native of Wichita, Kan. played 47 games over four seasons at the University of Tulsa, making 23 starts at left tackle. He began his professional career in the Indoor Football League as a member of the Tulsa Oilers, playing in three games. He re-signed with the team in October, but will return to Winnipeg before playing another contest.
The Blue Bombers will open the 2024 regular season by hosting the Grey Cup champion Montreal Alouettes at Princess Auto Stadium on Thursday, June 6.
