The Calgary Stampeders have re-signed American linebacker Micah Awe ahead of the opening of free agency.

The 30-year-old returns to the Stamps after setting a franchise record with 134 defensive tackles in his first season with the club — the third-highest mark in CFL history. He finished atop the league with 153 total defensive plays, adding four tackles for loss, six special teams tackles, two sacks, three interceptions, one forced fumble, and three batted passes, earning his first career CFL all-star selection.

The six-foot, 221-pound defender first arrived in the CFL in 2017 with the B.C. Lions and has since enjoyed stints with the Toronto Argonauts, Ottawa Redblacks, Montreal Alouettes and Stampeders. In 81 career games, he has accumulated 385 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 37 special teams tackles, six sacks, five interceptions, six forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and nine knockdowns.

The Stampeders will open their 2024 season on Friday, June 7 when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
