The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed Canadian defensive back Godfrey Onyeka to a one-year contract extension, tying him to the team through 2024.
The six-foot-two, 220-pound defender missed most of the 2023 season due to a torn pectoral muscle but returned near the end of campaign to record one special teams tackle over four games.
The native of Brampton, Ont. was originally a second-round pick of the Edmonton Football Team in the 2018 CFL Draft out of Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ont. He has since dressed for 48 career CFL games, making 31 defensive tackles and 23 special teams tackles.
The 29-year-old is cousins with fellow Saskatchewan defensive back Kosi Onyeka.
The Riders will open their 2024 regular season on Saturday, June 8 when they visit the Edmonton Elks at Commonwealth Stadium.
CFL free agency is set to get underway on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at noon EST.
