The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have re-signed the CFL’s reigning Most Outstanding Canadian Brady Oliveira, per sources.
It’s a two-year contract and he’ll earn $230,000 in 2024 and $240,000 in 2025, resetting the market for a national RB. Oliveira made around $120,000 in 2023 after reaching incentives for rushing yards, all-star selections and awards.
The 26-year-old had one of the greatest seasons by a running back in CFL history last year, rushing 260 times for 1,534 yards, 5.9 per carry, and nine touchdowns while making 38 receptions for 482 yards and four touchdowns.
He became one of only two Canadian running backs in league history to reach 2,000 yards from scrimmage and earned the West Division’s Most Outstanding Player and the league’s MOC distinction.
After Andrew Harris left for the Toronto Argonauts in 2022, Oliveira took over the No. 1 running back job and ran with it, carrying the football 202 times for 1,001 yards, 5.0 per carry, with nine touchdowns while catching 23 passes for 252 yards and one major.
Oliveira played 13 games for Winnipeg, starting six, during the shortened 2021 regular season. He carried the football 94 times for 429 yards, 4.6 per carry, with two touchdowns while adding nine catches for 74 yards.
A product of Oak Park High School, Oliveira was a star at the University of North Dakota, rushing 500 times for 2,822 yards, 5.6 per carry, and 22 touchdowns while adding 25 catches for 241 yards in 42 games over his four seasons with the Fighting Hawks. He earned All Big-Sky honours in 2016 and 2017.
The Winnipeg native was selected by the Bombers in the second round, 14th overall during the 2019 CFL Draft. Oliveira had his rookie CFL season cut short with a leg injury in the team’s home opener, limiting him to two games.
Oliveria agreed to the deal while in Bali training and rescuing dogs.
