Hamilton Tiger-Cats re-sign Marc Liegghio, Kaare Vedvik

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have secured their kicking game for the 2024 season, re-signing Canadian kicker Marc Liegghio and Global punter Kaare Vedvik. Both players were set to become free agents next week.

Liegghio joined the Tiger-Cats as a free agent just prior to the start of the 2023 regular season and made 41-of-47 field goal attempts for a conversion rate of 87.2 percent and a long of 50 yards. He also made 27-of-32 convert attempts.

The 26-year-old native of Woodbridge, Ont. was a fifth-round pick of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2020 CFL Draft. He made 37-of-47 field goal attempts over two seasons with the team for a conversion rate of 78.7 percent and a long of 55 yards. He also punted 183 times for a gross average of 45.3 yards.

The Western University product won a Vanier Cup with the Mustangs in 2017 and a Grey Cup with the Blue Bombers in 2021.

Vedvik joined Hamilton midway through the 2023 season via trade with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. He punted 50 times for a net average of 34.0 yards and a long of 62 yards.

The 29-year-old native of Stavanger, Norway was a second-round pick in the 2021 CFL Global Draft and signed with Saskatchewan after NFL stints with the Baltimore Ravens, Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, Washington Football Team, and Jacksonville Jaguars.

The six-foot-three, 215-pounder has punted 185 times for a gross average of 44.6 yards over 32 career CFL games.

The Ticats will open the 2024 regular season by visiting the Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium on Friday, June 7.
