The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed receiver Shawn Bane Jr. to a two-year contract extension through the 2025 season.
The 28-year-old was scheduled to hit free agency on February 13 and remains in Riderville after accepting a $40,000 signing bonus. He is scheduled to earn $170,000 in hard money this coming season with up to $12,000 more in performance incentives and all-star bonuses, putting his potential maximum earnings up to $182,000. His hard money will bump to $175,000 in the second year of the pact with the same incentive structure, maxing out at $187,000.
Bane Jr. had a breakout campaign in 2023, playing all 18 games during his first season in green and white, catching 93 passes for 1,104 yards and four touchdowns. He finished the year seventh in total receiving yardage and third in yards after the catch in the league.
The five-foot-nine, 178-pounder originally joined the Riders in free agency last year after spending three seasons with the Calgary Stampeders. He played 13 games over that stretch, recording 24 receptions for 388 yards and two touchdowns while also returning 25 punts for 262 yards and 14 kickoffs for 294 yards.
Bane Jr. played four collegiate seasons at Northwest Missouri State where he caught 212 passes for 3,363 yards and 31 touchdowns in 48 games. He was a second-team All-MIAA selection at receiver in every year he played and also excelled as a returner, scoring twice off punts. He spent training camp with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted NFL free agent in 2019 before arriving in the CFL.
Saskatchewan begins the 2024 season on Saturday, June 8 when the Riders travel to Edmonton to take on the Elks.
