Canadian defensive lineman Lwal Uguak has signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after an outstanding rookie year with the Montreal Alouettes.
The six-foot-four, 261-pound defender earned a starting role with the Alouettes this past season, recording 17 tackles and four sacks. He had five tackles in the East Semi-Final, one tackle in the East Final, and five tackles in the 110th Grey Cup to help his club snap their championship drought.
Uguak worked out for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on December 12. He attended rookie minicamps with the New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons last off-season but wasn’t offered a contract by either team.
The 23-year-old transferred to Texas Christian University in 2022, dressing for 14 games in a rotational role with the Horned Frogs as the team reached the National Championship Game against the University of Georgia. He made nine total tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss and one fumble recovery during the season.
The Edmonton native played at the University of Connecticut from 2018 to 2021 where he recorded 69 total tackles, nine tackles for loss, four sacks, four knockdowns, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery over 34 career games with the Huskies. The team did not play in 2020 due to the onset of the COVID pandemic.
Uguak recorded a 4.96-second forty-yard dash at TCU’s pro day along with a 29-inch vertical, nine-foot, eight-inch broad jump, and 18 reps on the bench. He clocked a 7.52-second three-cone and a 4.65-second short shuttle.
