The Calgary Stampeders have extended two core members of their special teams, re-signing returner Peyton Logan and linebacker Darius Williams ahead of the opening of free agency.

Logan has been a field-flipper in the return game since joining the team in 2022, earning Calgary’s nomination for Most Outstanding Rookie. In 22 career games, he has fielded 42 kickoffs for 945 yards and a touchdown, 96 punts for 962 yards, and added a 122-yard missed field goal return score.

The University of Tennessee-Martin product has also chipped in on offence, carrying 75 times for 534 yards and four touchdowns while catching 19 passes for 209 more.

Logan was seriously injured after a head-to-head collision with a B.C. Lions player on a kickoff return during the Western Semi-Final but is expected to ready for the start of training camp in May.

Williams received some NFL interest this offseason, working out for the Denver Broncos in December. Instead, he returns to the team where he posted 22 special teams tackles in 2023, finishing second in the CFL.

The 27-year-old hybrid linebacker first joined the Stampeders in 2020 but was released twice and re-signed before finally making the roster in 2022. The Colorado State-Pueblo product has since notched 14 defensive tackles, 28 special teams tackles and one sack for the Red and White.

The Stampeders will open their 2024 season on Friday, June 7 when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
