The Calgary Stampeders have re-signed American running back Dedrick Mills and national defensive back Nick Statz ahead of the opening of free agency next month.
Mills played 15 games for the Stampeders in 2023, stepping up to make nine starts following injuries to Ka’Deem Carey. He went on to lead the team in rushing, carrying 142 times for 802 yards and four touchdowns while catching 21 passes for another 123 yards.
The 27-year-old Nebraska product arrived in Calgary ahead of the 2022 season and has since suited up in 20 games for the Red and White, posting 209 carries for 1,261 yards and six touchdowns as well as 34 catches for 228 yards.
Statz was selected by his hometown Stampeders in the sixth round of the 2019 CFL Draft out of the University of Calgary. He appeared in 13 games for the team in 2023, making one start, and collected five defensive tackles, two special teams tackles, two interceptions, one fumble recovery and one knockdown.
In 36 career games, the former Dino has notched 11 defensive tackles, 17 special teams tackles, three interceptions, one fumble recovery and two knockdowns.
The Stampeders will open their 2024 season on Friday, June 7 when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
