Former CFL defensive back Kelly Malveaux passed away on Wednesday at the age of 47 years old, according to a report from the Arizona Daily Star. His cause of death is currently unknown.

Malveaux played 156 games over 10 seasons in the CFL, beginning with a brief stint with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 1999. He later played with the Calgary Stampeders from 2001 to 2003, the Montreal Alouettes from 2004 to 2005, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers from 2006 to 2008, before wrapping up his career after being traded to the Edmonton Elks in 2009.

A West Division all-star at halfback in 2004 and East Division all-star in 2008, the Bellflower, Cal. native amassed 463 defensive tackles, 27 special teams tackles, six sacks, and 17 interceptions. He is fondly remembered for a play in 2002 when he pulled a Sharpie out of his sock to sign the ball from a would-be-interception over Milt Stegall, only to have the play later ruled a simultaneous catch and touchdown for the offence.

In addition to his time north of the border, Malveaux played for the Amsterdam Admirals in NFL Europe, the Orlando Rage of the XFL, and the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the UFL. He also spent time with the San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots.

Prior to his professional career, Malveaux was a starting cornerback for the University of Arizona from 1995 until 1998.
