The Ottawa Redblacks have signed American defensive lineman Bryce Carter to a one-year contract extension, tying him to the team through 2024. He was set to become a free agent next month.

The six-foot, 252-pound edge rusher had a breakout season in 2023, recording 31 defensive tackles, 12 sacks, and two forced fumbles over 18 regular season games. He was named an East Division all-star.

“I love playing in Ottawa and I’m looking forward to taking a big step forward in 2024 as a player and as a team,” said Carter in a statement. “We all understand we have unfinished business to get to this season and I’m happy to get to play a part in that.”

The 25-year-old started his CFL career in 2022 when he made 10 tackles and two sacks in seven games as a rookie in Ottawa.

CFL free agency is set to get underway on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at noon EST.
