The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed Canadian kicker Brett Lauther to a three-year contract extension, tying him to the team through 2026. He was set to become a free agent next month.

The native of Truro, N.S. made 36-of-44 field goal attempts this past season for a percentage of 81.8, which ranked seventh league-wide. He also made 27-of-29 convert attempts for an average of 93.1 percent.

The six-foot-one, 195-pound kicker joined the Riders as a free agent in 2018 and has since made 203-of-242 field goal attempts, 130-of-142 convert attempts, and 14 special teams tackles. He was named Saskatchewan’s Most Outstanding Canadian and Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2018 as well as a West Division all-star. He was also named the club’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2021.

The Saint Mary’s product is the most accurate placekicker in team history with a minimum of 100 field goal attempts. His field goal percentage from 2018 (90.0) is the second-highest single-season mark in club history behind Dave Ridgway and he ranked third all-time in field goals made behind Ridgway (574) and Paul McCallum (368).

Lauther received the prestigious Tom Pate Memorial Award in 2023, which is given to a CFL Players’ Association (CFLPA) member who demonstrates supreme sportsmanship and exemplary contributions to his team and community. He was originally a seventh-round pick in the 2013 CFL Draft and had stints with Hamilton, Toronto, and Edmonton prior to his current tenure with the Riders.

CFL free agency is set to get underway on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at noon EST.
