The Saskatchewan Roughriders have added a recognizable former NFL target to their roster, signing receiver Geronimo Allison.
The six-foot-three, 202-pound pass-catcher spent parts of seven seasons in the NFL, most notably with the Green Bay Packers. Signed as an undrafted free agent following the 2016 NFL season, Allison spent four years in Wisconsin and made 41 career appearances in the iconic uniform. He caught 89 passes for 1,045 yards and six touchdowns over that span, adding another eight catches for 84 yards in five playoff games.
The 30-year-old signed with the Detroit Lions ahead of the 2020 season but opted out due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He appeared in three games for the team the following season but did not record a catch. Following an unsuccessful training camp stint with the Atlanta Falcons in 2022, the Tampa, Fla. native joined the XFL’s Vegas Vipers last season, registering 22 receptions for 240 yards and one touchdown in nine games.
Prior to entering the professional ranks, Allison played two seasons at the University of Illinois, where he recorded 106 catches for 1,480 yards and eight touchdowns in 24 games. An honourable mention All-Big 10 selection in 2015, he transferred from Iowa Western Community College where he was a second-team Junior College All-American in 2013.
Saskatchewan will begin their 2024 season on Saturday, June 8 when they travel to Edmonton to face the Elks.
