The Calgary Stampeders have signed American defensive back Bentlee Sanders.

The five-foot-nine, 175-pound corner played 25 games over two seasons at the University of Nevada, earning first-team all-Mountain West Conference honours in 2022. The Tampa native transferred to the Wolfpack after playing 30 games for the University of South Florida.

Sanders recorded 200 career tackles between the two schools, adding 12.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, six forced fumbles, 11 pass breakups and seven interceptions, including two that were returned for touchdowns. He went unselected in the 2023 NFL Draft and attended rookie mini-camps with the Philadelphia Eagles and Tennesse Titans without receiving a contract. This offseason, he was taken by the DC Defenders in the 2023 XFL rookie draft, before that league merged with the USFL.

The Stampeders will open their 2024 season on Friday, June 7 when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
