The B.C. Lions have released veteran receiver Dominique Rhymes. The move came mere hours after the club signed fellow receiver Alexander Hollins to a contract extension through 2025.
“We thank Dom for all of his contributions to our team both on and off the field,” said head coach and co-general manager Rick Campbell in a statement. “In the salary cap era, these are the hard decisions we have to make.”
Rhymes made 35 receptions for 535 yards and six touchdowns over 10 games this past season. He missed eight games due to injury, including a six-game stint due to a knee injury in August and September.
The 30-year-old native of Miami, Fla. broke into the CFL as a member of the Ottawa Redblacks in 2017 and spent three seasons with the team. He signed with B.C. as a free agent in 2020 and was named a CFL all-star in 2022.
The six-foot-four, 215-pound target has made 250 receptions for 3,925 yards and 24 touchdowns over 75 career CFL games.
CFL free agency is set to get underway on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at noon EST, though Rhymes is now free to sign with any team across the league.
