The Green Bay Packers worked out a trio of CFL players on Monday, including Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ linebacker Carthell Flowers-Lloyd, Saskatchewan Roughriders’ receiver Samuel Emilus and Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ cornerback Kenneth George.
Flowers-Lloyd was a standout punt and kick coverage player as a rookie in 2023, amassing 31 special teams tackles in 18 games. He saw limited action on defence in his first CFL season.
Prior to signing in the CFL, Flowers-Lloyd was a collegiate safety at Stony Brook University, earning third-team all-conference honours in 2022 after registering 70 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, two quarterback sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one interception and four pass breakups in 10 games. The six-foot-two, 205-pound defender transferred from Eastern Michigan University, where he posted 25 tackles in 31 appearances over three seasons.
The 25-year-old has worked out for five NFL clubs this offseason, including the Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers.
Emilus made 70 receptions for 1,097 yards and six touchdowns this past season in his first as a full-time starter. The six-foot-one, 200-pound target was originally a first-round pick in the 2022 CFL Draft out of Louisiana Tech University.
The Montreal native ran a 4.59-second forty-yard dash at his pro day along with a 4.13-second shuttle and 6.88 three-cone drill. He also leaped 37 inches in the vertical jump, 128 inches in the broad jump, and recorded nine reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.
The 26-year-old has already worked out for the Arizona Cardinals, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos and Tennessee Titans this off-season.
George started all 18 games as a CFL rookie in 2023, collecting 43 defensive tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and two interceptions. This was his first NFL workout.
The six-foot, 194-pound cornerback played four seasons at the University of Tennessee (2018-21) prior to coming to Canada, recording 52 total tackles, one tackle for loss, one fumble recovery, 10 pass deflections and one interception in 33 games. He signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and also spent time with the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks.
All three players remain under contract with their respective CFL teams for the 2024 season but can explore NFL opportunities through the league’s annual workout window, which extends from November 20 until February 13. The first day that CFL players could sign reserve/futures contracts with NFL teams was Monday, January 8.
The Packers (9-8) clinched a playoff spot in Week 18 and will face off against the Dallas Cowboys (12-5) in an NFC Wild Card game on Sunday, January 14 at 4:30 p.m. ET.
