Former Calgary Stampeders linebacker Alex Singleton has written his name in the Denver Broncos’ record books.

With his 13-tackle performance in Denver’s regular-season finale against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, the 30-year-old linebacker set the Broncos single-season tackle record with 177. The previous mark was held by Michael Brooks who recorded 170 tackles in 1992.

The single-season tackle record wasn’t the only accomplishment Singleton was chasing in Week 18.

Singleton also surpassed a post-1999 record with 13 double-digit tackle games. Former Broncos Zach Thomas and Foyesade Oluokun were the previous record holders who accomplished the same feat in 2005 and 2021, respectively.

Singleton finished the 2023 campaign with 177 total tackles, 83 solo tackles, two sacks, five tackles for loss and four passes defended in 17 games. He finished third in the NFL in total tackles and fourth in solo tackles. As per Denver Broncos Public Relations Assistant Tyler Gorse, the six-foot-two, 240-pound is one of four players to record at least 550 tackles and 10 passes defended since 2020.

Singleton signed a three-year, $18 million contract extension with the Broncos last offseason, marking his second year with the team and fifth in the NFL. Prior to joining Denver, Singleton spent three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. He finished his tenure with Philly with 263 combined tackles, two sacks, two interceptions, one forced fumble and two touchdowns.

Singleton was a first-round pick of the Calgary Stampeders in the 2016 CFL Draft. He recorded 123 tackles over his final two years in Canada and earned the league’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award in 2017.

The former CFL star has made a name for himself down south.
