Canadian DL Michael Hoecht resets career high in sacks with Los Angeles Rams

Canadian defensive lineman Michael Hoecht achieved a career-high in sacks in the Los Angeles Rams’ 21-20 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

The Oakville, Ont native recorded his fifth sack of the season, beating last year’s personal best of 4.5. Hoecht smashed previous career highs across the board, starting in 16 games, registering 75 total tackles, 10 quarterback hits, six tackles for loss, and one forced fumble in his first full season starting on the Rams defensive line.

In 2022, the 26-year-old recorded 36 total tackles, nine quarterback hits, 4.5 sacks, four tackles for loss, and one forced fumble over 17 games with six starts

The six-foot-four, 300-pound defensive lineman went unselected out of Brown University in the 2020 NFL Draft. He recorded 158 total tackles and 17 sacks during his Ivy League college career while also serving as a calculus tutor.

Hoecht moved to Dayton, Ohio as a young child but returned to Canada with his family during his teenage years, playing high school football in Ottawa in grade nine and Toronto in grade ten.

The Super Bowl LVI winner was selected in the second round, 10th overall by the Ottawa Redblacks in the 2020 CFL Draft.

The Rams travel to Detroit to meet the Lions on Super Wildcard weekend which will take place on January 14th at 8:15 ET.
