The Edmonton Elks have released American defensive back Aaron Grymes after his third stint with the club.

Grymes spent eight seasons total with the Elks, spanning from 2013 to 2023. The five-foot-eleven, 186-pound defender missed all of the 2022 and 2023 seasons with a knee injury. In 2021 Grymes suited up in 13 games for the Green and Gold, registering 51 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle and one interception.

Over his career with the Elks, Grymes recorded 240 defensive tackles, 19 special teams tackles and 12 interceptions in 79 career games. The 32-year-old was a key piece of the franchise’s last Grey Cup championship in 2015, before spending a year with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles.

The Elks have wasted no time making some tough roster decisions, as several key players are set for roster bonuses on January 15.

Grymes also spent the 2019 season with the BC Lions in which he played 16 games, amassing 54 defensive tackles and one interception.

CFL free agency is set to get underway on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at noon EST.
