The New England Patriots worked out Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ linebacker Carthell Flowers-Lloyd on Friday.

It’s his second NFL workout this offseason after travelling to Jacksonville on December 8.

The 25-year-old was a standout punt and kick coverage player as a rookie in 2023, amassing 31 special teams tackles in 18 games. He saw limited action on defence in his first CFL season.

Prior to signing in the CFL, Flowers-Lloyd was a collegiate safety at Stony Brook University, earning third-team all-conference honours in 2022 after registering 70 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss, two quarterback sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one interception and four pass breakups in 10 games. The six-foot-two, 205-pound defender transferred from Eastern Michigan University, where he posted 25 tackles in 31 appearances over three seasons.

Flowers-Lloyd remains under contract with the Ticats for the 2024 season but can explore NFL opportunities through the CFL’s annual workout window, which extends from November 20 until February 13, 2024. The first day that CFL players can sign reserve/futures contracts with NFL teams is January 8, 2024.

The Patriots (4-11) travel to Buffalo to take on the Bills (9-6) on Sunday, December 31 with kickoff slated for 1:00 p.m. ET.
