The Montreal Alouettes have signed general manager Danny Maciocia and head coach Jason Maas to contract extensions, both of whom were reportedly set to enter the final year of their respective deals. Maciocia is now under contract through 2027, while Maas is tied to the team through 2026.
“This is a great day for our organization,” said team president and CEO Mark Weightman in a statement. “I was happy to work with Danny again when I returned to the Alouettes last March and to know that we will work together for the next few years makes me smile. We like the direction our team is taking and this stability will only make us stronger.”
Montreal won the Grey Cup last month in a 28-24 upset over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton. The team went 11-7 during the regular season to finish second in the East Division.
“I am extremely pleased to continue in the long term and to continue our work on a solid foundation,” said Maciocia. “I want to thank our owner Pierre Karl Péladeau and our president Mark Weightman for the opportunity. I like the chemistry within our team and the mentality we have implemented. Knowing that I will continue to work in Montreal with our same pool of players makes me very excited to start the season.”
Maciocia has served as the general manager in Montreal since 2020, going 27-23 during the regular season. The club has made the postseason in all three years, posting a 4-2 record including this year’s Grey Cup run.
The 56-year-old previously served as the head coach and general manager of the Edmonton Football Team after starting his coaching career in Montreal. He has a 41-44-1 record as a CFL head coach, including an interim run with the Alouettes in 2022 following the firing of Khari Jones.
Maciocia also served as the head coach of the Université de Montreal Carabins from 2011 to 2019. He went 57-16 over nine seasons with the team, winning three Dunsmore Cups and one Vanier Cup.
Maas played under Maciocia in Edmonton and the two have maintained a close relationship over the years. He previously served as the head coach in Edmonton for four seasons from 2016 to 2019, posting a 39-33 record with a 3-3 record in the playoffs.
The 48-year-old was the offensive coordinator of the Saskatchewan Roughriders for three years but was fired following the conclusion of the 2022 season before being hired by the Alouettes. He has won four Grey Cups: two as a player, one as an assistant coach, and one as a head coach.
