The B.C. Lions have signed three players, including former Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ defensive back and return specialist Lawrence Woods III.
The five-foot-nine, 180-pound speedster recorded 23 defensive tackles and 21 special teams tackles over 21 games with the Tiger-Cats over the course of the 2022 and 2023 seasons. He also returned 56 kickoffs for 1,267 yards and one touchdown. He finished the season Hamilton’s practice roster, making him a free agent following the team’s elimination from the postseason.
The native of St. Louis, Miss. made 79 total tackles, 27 pass knockdowns, five interceptions, and two sacks over three collegiate seasons at Truman State before attending training camp with the New Orleans Saints in 2021.
The Lions also signed American defensive lineman Janathian Turner and American linebacker Jake Carlock.
Turner made 195 total tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, and one pass knockdown over 51 games at Gardner-Webb University. The six-foot-three, 306-pound native of Atlanta went unselected in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Carlock played with the New York Giants in 2019 and recorded a pick-six during the preseason. He was a member of the Giants, Miami Dolphins, and Atlanta Falcons during the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
The six-foot-three, 225-pound tackler originally signed with B.C. in 2021 but retired before the start of training camp. Carlock played his two final collegiate seasons at Long Island where he made 113 combined tackles and four interceptions. He was named the NE10 Defensive Player of the Year in 2018.
