The Calgary Stampeders have re-signed Canadian defensive back Malcolm Thompson.
The five-foot-11, 193-pound safety signed with the Stampeders in September and went on to play in four regular-season games, recording one defensive tackle and one special-teams stop. He also dressed for the Western Semi-Final.
An undrafted free agent out of Wilfrid Laurier University, originally signed with the Stampeders ahead of the cancelled 2020 season but failed to make the team’s roster the following year. He later joined the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, making two special teams tackles in two appearances.
Thompson would land with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2022 and started seven games for the club, finishing with 23 defensive tackles and five special teams tackles in 10 total appearances.
The 28-year-old was a three-time OUA all-star at Laurier, recording 81 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, two sacks, seven interceptions and 16 pass breakups in 24 games.
The Stampeders will open their 2024 season on Friday, June 7 at 9:00 p.m. ET when they host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
