The Edmonton Elks have signed American defensive lineman Romeo McKnight.

The six-foot-four, 261-pound pass rusher arrives in the Alberta capital after having previously spent the 2022 season with the Calgary Stampeders.  He dressed for four regular season games as a rookie, recording seven tackles and one sack, but was released following training camp in 2023.

McKnight began his collegiate career at Iowa but did not see action for two seasons. He moved to Illinois State in 2018, racking up 111 total tackles, 15 sacks, five pass deflections and two forced fumbles in 26 games with the Redbirds.

After earning first-team all-conference after a 12-sack season in 2019, he transferred to the University of North Carolina-Charlotte for his final campaign and notched 24 total tackles, five tackles for loss, and 1.5 sacks as an All-Conference USA honourable mention.

McKnight signed with the Cleveland Browns after going unselected in the 2021 NFL Draft and was waived following training camp.

The Elks are slated to begin the 75th regular season in club history when they host the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday, June 8 at 7:00 p.m. ET.
