The University of Guelph has lost defensive back Devynn Cromwell as he’s transferred to Texas Tech Univeristy.
The six-foot-one, 200-pound cover man made 21.5 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one interception, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and five pass breakups over eight games for the Gryphons this past season and was named a second-team OUA all-star. It was his third on the field at Guelph after he originally committed to the team during the COVID-cancelled 2020 season.
“I am excited to continue my growth both academically and athletically as a member of the Texas Tech family,” Cromwell wrote on social media. “I look forward to continuing to chase my dreams and helping pave the way for future Canadian football players.”
The Toronto native is the third member of the Gryphons to transfer to an NCAA Power Five school since 2020.
Tavius Robinson transferred from Guelph to Ole Miss in 2020 and used his tenure with the Rebels to attract the attention of NFL scouts. He was taken in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens and has recorded 19 total tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack over 13 games a rookie with one start.
Fellow defensive lineman Jaden Dicks transferred from Guelph to Ole Miss in 2021 and is now a redshirt sophomore.
Texas Tech finished 6-6 this past season, finishing tied for seventh in the Big 12 Conference. The Red Raiders are slated to play against the California Golden Bears in the Independence Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 16.
