The Hamilton Tiger-Cats will have a new head coach in 2024 as president of football operations Orlondo Steinauer has stepped down from the role while also naming Ed Hervey as the team’s general manager.
The Ticats will announce a new head coach later this week.
Steinauer served as the team’s head coach from 2019-2023, guiding them to back-to-back Grey Cup appearances in 2019 and 2021, losing both times to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He was the team’s defensive coordinator from 2013-2017 and returned to the club in 2018 as assistant head coach. The Ticats made the playoff in all nine seasons Steinauer was on the coaching staff.
As head coach, Steinauer amassed a record of 39-29 record and was named the Coach of the Year in 2019 after guiding the team to a franchise-best 15-3 regular season record.
Hervey joined the organization in December 2021, as assistant general manager and senior advisor to the president of football operations. Hervey had a four-year stint as general manager in Edmonton (2013-2016) and two years in that same role with the B.C. Lions. Hervey was the architect behind Edmonton’s championship team in 2015 and made three consecutive division finals after going 4-14 in his first season.
Before making the transition to the front office, Hervey enjoyed a successful career on the field. In eight seasons with Edmonton (1999-2006), the Compton, California native registered 476 receptions for 6,715 yards with 43 receiving touchdowns. He was a member of Edmonton’s Grey Cup-winning teams in 2003 and 2005 and was named a CFL all-star on two occasions (2003, 2005). He was also a member of the Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl-winning team in 1996.
