Canadian running back Chuba Hubbard recorded the first multi-touchdown game of his NFL career in Week 13.
The Sherwood Park, Alberta native found the end zone twice in Carolina’s 21-18 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. He had 25 carries for 104 yards to go along with the two scores.
Hubbard has been nominated for the NFL’s Ground Player of the Week following his game against the Bucs. He is going up against Arizona Cardinals running back James Conner, who had 105 rushing yards and two touchdowns against the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry, who had 102 yards on the ground and two scores against the Indianapolis Colts.
The six-foot-one, 210-pound ball carrier has 557 yards on 143 carries after assuming a more featured role in Carolina’s offence this season. The Panthers signed Miles Sanders in free agency to be their lead back but injuries to Sanders thrust Hubbard into a more prominent role which he has not relinquished.
Hubbard was selected by the Panthers in the fourth round, 126th overall during the 2021 NFL Draft. He was a fifth-round pick, 43rd overall by the Calgary Stampeders in the 2021 CFL Draft.
The 24-year-old went pro following a stellar NCAA career at Oklahoma State University. His best season came in 2019 when rushed for 2,094 yards and scored 21 touchdowns for the Cowboys. He was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, Jon Cornish Trophy winner and was a unanimous All-American following the season.
