Edmonton has re-signed national fullback Tanner Green and Canadian linebacker Josiah Schakel.

Both men sign two-year contract extensions with the Elks.

As the longest-serving member of the green and gold, the 30-year-old Green returns for his sixth season in the Alberta capital. He was fourth-round pick by Edmonton in the 2018 CFL Draft. The Lacombe, AB native has appeared in 59 regular season games with Edmonton, recording 60 special teams tackles, nine receptions with two receiving touchdowns.

In 2023, Green was named the top special teams player by Pro Football Focus for the month of September.

Meanwhile, Schakel played in 15 games with the Elks this past season, finishing second on the team in special teams tackles with 15. The Sherwood Park native joined the Elks in late June after being released by the Calgary Stampeders following training camp.

He was a second-round pick in the 2022 CFL Draft by the Stamps. Schakel had a standout career with the University of Alberta Golden Bears and was named U Sports Defensive Player of the Year in 2021.
