The Ottawa Redblacks have signed four players, including American running backs Ryquell Armstead and Tyler Hoosman and American receivers KeSean Carter and Jon’Vea Johnson.
Armstead was a fifth-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Temple University. He dressed for 18 games over three seasons with the team, recording 50 carries for 188 yards and 17 receptions for 160 yards and two touchdowns. He has also been a member of the New York Giants, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, and the DC Defenders of the XFL.
The five-foot-eleven, 221-pound ball-carrier ran for 2,812 yards and 34 touchdowns over 29 collegiate games with the Owls and was named first-team All-AAC as a senior.
Hoosman ran for 1,023 yards and 12 touchdowns during his final season of collegiate eligibility at the University of North Dakota. He previously played at the University of Northern Iowa where he carried the ball 255 times for 1,034 yards and 12 touchdowns over four seasons with the Panthers. The 24-year-old signed with the Los Angeles Chargers as an undrafted free agent this year but was released at the end of training camp.
Carter made 64 receptions over 932 yards and six touchdowns over 22 games at the University of Houston. Prior to that, he spent three collegiate seasons at Texas Tech where he made 83 catches for 831 yards and seven touchdowns.
Johnson was in training camp with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 2023 but was released as part of final roster cuts. He caught two passes in the preseason for 27 yards.
The six-foot, 192-pound target spent the 2022 season on the Montreal Alouettes’ practice roster after previously spending time with the Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Chicago Bears.
The 27-year-old made 120 receptions for 2,186 yards and 24 touchdowns over four seasons at the University of Toledo (2015-18) and was named second-team All-MAC in 2016.
