Toronto Argonauts’ quarterback Chad Kelly has been named the CFL’s George Reed Most Outstanding Player for the 2023 CFL season, winning the vote by a margin of 39 to 22 over Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ running back Brady Oliveira.

The award was renamed in 2023 to honour legendary former Saskatchewan Roughriders’ running back George Reed, who passed away earlier this year.

The 29-year-old completed 68.5 percent of his passes for 4,123 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions this season, helping lead the Argonauts to a 16-2 record. He also carried the ball 41 times for 248 yards and eight touchdowns. He was named an East Division all-star and a CFL all-star.

Kelly went 15-1 as a starter in 2023 with his lone loss coming in a game he was unable to finish due to injury. He entered the year with only one previous CFL career start under centre, which came late last season after Toronto has already clinched first place in the East Division.

Voting was conducted by 61 national members of the Football Reporters of Canada (FRC).
